Happy (belated) 4th of July!

Our 4th of July began at the Zoo! It's been 98 degrees or higher this week, so we knew we had to get there early if we wanted to go at all this summer, so we decided July 4th was as good a time as any, and Kate loved it. Our journey that day began with the new train they have there, and let this be a warning to all parents out there that venture to the Baltimore Zoo - do not waste your $2 for the train ride! It was a very short trip through one side of the zoo, and we didn't see anything but trees the entire time. Not very stimulating...
Kate's looking forward to her train ride...

The zoo tuckered Kate out pretty good for an early nap, so we could head out to a picnic on Back River with friends. And there, she spent several hours tiring herself (and Daddy) out again by playing in the pool. Thank goodness, or she may have melted in the sunshine, but they sure had fun!

And I gotta say, they sure have some cool pool "toys" and floats these days. She could stand in this mesh thing and hang out all by herself, it was pretty awesome...
And after swimming stint #1, Kate worked up quite an appetite and scarfed down two big chicken legs like a pro! She had bbq sauce smeared all over her face and everything, we were so proud!
And to round out the day, swimming stint #2 ended in pure silliness...

Just two girls dancin' at the beach!

Cousins!!

A year later at Lewes...

We stopped at Lewes Beach with Kate again, because she enjoyed it so much last year, and she loved it just the same or more this time around, venturing out further and further to test her courage... Other activities included destroying any sand castles on the beach (below), and observing the multiple jellyfish that washed up on shore (bottom). She is obsessed with jellyfish from a book she has, so the real-life version was quite fascinating for her...

Swimming at Nana's!

"I am a flower!"

Kate's school held their annual Garden Party a couple weeks ago, which is held to celebrate the actual garden the staff and children maintain there, and I must say, we were skeptical about another "performance" from Kate's class, as the first one didn't go off so well. However, what a difference several months makes in a 2-year-old's confidence! They did very well...those who actually sang the songs. For some reason, Kate didn't utter a single note that day, despite having "practiced" all the songs for us at home many times that week. I don't think I see "Toddlers & Tiaras" in our future - thank goodness!

Kate and her friend Brenley, very proud of their flower parts...
Sitting attentively, though quiet as the group began singing...
Caught a cute look at Daddy during the "show"...
And doing her part to keep the group together during a ring-around-the-rosy episode...
